Christian Bale was initially reluctant to join Terminator Salvation because he felt the franchise had run its course. Interestingly, he signed on not for John Connor's initial minor role but agreed only after the script was revised to give his character a more central focus.

In February 2009, an audio recording leaked featuring Christian Bale shouting at the director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, for walking into a scene. This tirade went viral, casting a shadow over the film's promotion. Bale later publicly apologized, stating his behavior was unprofessional and that he had patched things up with Hurlbut. The incident inadvertently raised the film's profile, sparking debates on the pressures of film sets.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was the Governor of California at the time, did not actually film any new scenes for Terminator Salvation. Instead, his likeness was digitally recreated using CGI, based on his appearance from the original Terminator movie. This technological feat was achieved by the visual effects team, who scanned a physical model of Schwarzenegger's face from 1984 to create a realistic digital Arnold.
